1984年11月23日、新田原基地航空祭の前々日の早朝、海上側からゆっくりと
真っ黒い排煙をだして飛行機が近づいてきました。
そしてその機体は基地上空をフライパスしました。海兵隊のＲＦ４でした。
私は「でも、なんだったのだろう？？。 航空祭当日に外来機として来るのかな？。」
などどうきうきしました。
翌日の新聞を見ると「ソ連軍機が早朝に九州沖合の領空を大がかりに侵犯した。」とありました。
もうすぐ航空祭と浮かれていた私でしたが、現在冷戦真っただ中であることを実感しました（＞＜）。

November 23, 1984, in the early morning
of the day before the Nyutabaru Air Base
Festival, an airplane approached with a
slow black smoke from the seaside. And
the aircraft flew over the base. It was
RF4 of the Marine Corps.
I
was excited, "But what was it ??.
Will it come as an outpatient aircraft on
the day of the air festival?"
The
next day's newspaper said, "A Soviet
military aircraft invaded the airspace
off Kyushu in the early morning on a
large scale."
I
was thinking of an air show soon, but I
realized that I was in the middle of the
Cold War (> <).
