シーサーとは、ライオン＝獅子（しし）のことで、魔物や災いを追い払ってくれる沖縄の守り神です。
沖縄に行くと個人宅や公共施設、歴史文化財など至る所でシーサーを見ることができます。

守りたいものを背に災いが侵入してくる方向に向かって置かれ、1体のものと2体対になっている
ものがあります。

2体対のシーサーはオスとメスのペアで、口が開いている方がオス、閉じている方がメスです。
諸説ありますが、口を大きく開いた「あ」から始まり口を完全に閉じた「ん」で終わる、
仏教の「阿吽（あうん）」を表現しているといわれています。

Shisa is a lion, a guardian deity of Okinawa that drives away monsters and disasters. If you go to Okinawa, you can see Shisa everywhere, including private homes, public facilities, and historical and cultural properties.

Some are placed in the direction in which disasters invade with the ones you want to protect on your back, and some are paired with one.

The pair of Shisa is a pair of male and female, the one with the open mouth is the male and the one with the closed mouth is the female. There are various theories, but it is said to express the Buddhist "Aun", which starts with "A" with a wide open mouth and ends with "N" with a completely closed mouth.
