これは、1988.07.31の岐阜基地航空祭で撮影したSTOL実験機「飛鳥」です。
技術庁航空宇宙技術研究所（現：JAXA）が、小さな地方空港でも離発着でき、低騒音の航空機の技術を得るために開発したSTOL（短距離離着陸）実験機です。
「飛鳥」は、C-1輸送機を原型としており、純国産ターボファンエンジン4基を主翼の上に搭載しています。エンジン排気をフラップに沿って下向きにまげて通常の2〜3倍の揚力を発生させるUSB方式高揚力装置や、コンピュータ制御の飛行安定装置を採用して、1985年10月には初飛行を行い高いSTOL性を実証しました。
その後、「飛鳥」は、1989年（平成元年）3月まで、3年半の間に97回の飛行実験を行いました。

This is an experimental STOL (short takeoff and
landing) aircraft developed by the Japan
Aerospace Technology Agency (currently JAXA) to
obtain low-noise aircraft technology that can
take off and land at small regional airports. ``Asuka''
is based on the C-1 transport aircraft, and is
equipped with four purely domestic turbofan
engines mounted on the main wings. Adopting a USB-type
high lift device that bends the engine exhaust
downward along the flap to generate two to three
times the normal lift, and a computer-controlled
flight stabilizer, it made its first flight in
1985 and achieved a high STOL. After that, "Asuka"
conducted 97 flight experiments over a period of
three and a half years until March 1989 (Heisei 1).
