These are F104Js of 202SQ and 204SQ taken at the Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru Air Base Air Festival held on November 15, 1981.
At that time, I didn't have a single-lens reflex camera yet and was using a Fujika auto compact camera, so I was only able to take pictures of the display model.

This is a 204SQ-F104J photographed at the Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru Air Base Air Festival held on November 22, 1982.

At this year's air festival, the 202SQ F104J had been converted to the F15J (5th photo).

At that time, I didn't have a single-lens reflex camera and was using a Fujika auto compact camera, so I was only able to photograph the exhibited model.

This is the 204SQ F104J taken at JASDF -NYUTABARU base on August 18, 1983.

On this day, there was an F104J with two camouflage paint.

These seem to be the aircraft that participated in the JASDF -F104 unit's battle competition this year.

This is a 204SQ F104J taken at the JASDF-Nyutabaru Air Base Air Festival held on January 22, 1984.
After the demo flight, the F104Js taxied to the apron in front of our audience.

This is F104J of 204SQ taken at JASDF-Nyutabaru base on May 18, 1984.

On this day, F104Js from the 207th Squadron attached to Naha Base in Okinawa Prefecture, which had just arrived for an aircraft change, were flying in fingertip formation.

Around this time, the 204SQ F104, which was about to be disbanded, often exchanged aircraft with the 207SQ F104, which continued to exist. (This seems to be to move a high-performance aircraft from 204SQ to 207SQ.)

207SQ's F104J has a gray coating on its fuselage to prevent salt, so I quickly understood.

This is F104J of 204SQ taken at the RW28 end of JASDF-Nyutabaru base on May 18, 1984.

At this time, the 204SQ F104 was on the verge of retirement.
For that reason, there were many aircraft replacements with the last remaining 207SQ F104 belonging to Naha base.

Because the Naha base faces the sea, the entire fuselage was painted with gray salt-resistant paint like Unit 663.

This is 204SQ-F104J photographed at JASDF-Nyutabaru base on November 22, 1984.

On this day, many F104s with dart targets took off. I started taking photos around this time, and I thought all but the first photo were failures, but now I find it interesting that they show ground targets and a ground maintenance bus.

This is 204SQ-F104J photographed at JASDF-Nyutabaru base on September 30, 1983. This aircraft had camouflage paint applied to the entire aircraft in order to participate in this year's JASDF- Competition.

This is a photo of an F104DJ of 204SQ taking off at JASDF Nyutabaru Base on October 24, 1984.

This aircraft was painted with camouflage similar to that of an F1 fighter jet around January 1984 (third photo).
This aircraft appears to have had the paint removed immediately after.

This photo was taken at JASDF-Nyutabaru Base on February 6, 1984 of 204SQ's F104J/DJ landing from RW28.

On that day, a joint Japan-US training exercise was being held, and a US Air Force pilot was in the back seat of the F104DJ
.

This is a photo of the landing of 204SQ-F104 taken at JASDF-Nyutabaru base on July 28, 1983.

On that day, I bought a single-lens reflex camera and a 70-210mm lens, and photographed the F104 for the first time. The F104 was so fast that it was very difficult to capture it in the camera frame, and most of the shots were unsuccessful.

This is a side shot of 204SQ-F104 taken at JASDF-Nyutabaru base in August 29-30 1983.
On that day, I used a 210mm x 2x teleplus lens
.
