This is a formation takeoff of 301SQ F4EJ taken at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru base on November 26, 1989.
These F4EJs are aircraft that participated in the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force's combat competition (gun shooting competition by F4 units) held in mid-November 1989.
The vertical tail was painted black like the VF84 Jolly Rogers, and the 301SQ's call sign at the time, "Amigo", was painted in large red on the fuselage.
The shape of the shark's mouth of these five specially painted F4s was different.
At that time, not only Japanese F4 Phantom enthusiasts but also many fans who came to this air festival were overjoyed to see this aircraft.

This is a 301SQ F4EJ Kai-384 belonging to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's 5th Air Wing Nyutabaru Base.

This aircraft is painted for the 1995 Air Self-Defense Force Combat Competition. This year's F4 unit's combat competition was gun shooting.
This F4 aircraft has an air superiority camouflage by overspraying the official F4 paint of the Air Self-Defense Force, Gull Gray, with blue-gray.
A shark's mouth is drawn on the nose of the F4, and a large V mark is drawn on the fuselage.
This V mark stands for V for the 5th Air Wing and V for Victory.
The vertical tail is painted black, reminiscent of the VF84 Jolly Roger's.
Furthermore, there is a red scorpion mark written on the air intake vane. This is the mark of the QF104J at the Gifu base that was actually shot down by gunfire.

This is an F4EJ of the 5th Air Wing 301SQ taken at Japan's Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru Air Base in October 1990.
This is the aircraft that participated in the Air Self-Defense Force Combat Skills Competition this year. This year's competition was a gun shooting event, so the aircraft had special paint that was very noticeable. There were five stars representing the 5th Air Wing on the upper fuselage, and the vertical tail was painted blacktail. Furthermore, to raise the fighting spirit, a shark tooth with a dart target in its mouth was drawn on the nose of this No. 371 aircraft.
The shark teeth on the left side of the nose had bullet holes drawn on them as dart targets (see the first photo). It was a very detailed and intricately painted aircraft.

This is F4EJ Kai No. 354 in the 1992 Air Self-Defense Force Combat Competition livery of 301SQ, taken at Japan's Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru base from August to November 1992.
This year's competition seems to have been the Air Combat Manoeuvring competition, and the participating 301SQ-F4EJ Kai had two bright gray colors oversprayed over the official gull gray paint. And the Japanese red Japanese flag on the fuselage was also oversprayed in light gray.
For us Japanese military aircraft enthusiasts, these F4EJ Kai were called the "Moo Moo" because of their pattern that resembled that of a dairy cow.

At the end of May 1997, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Combat Competition was held at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru Base. This year's competition was an air combat maneuver competition. These are 302SQ F4EJ Kais who participated from Naha base. The unit mark of 302SQ is the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) that lives in Hokkaido, Japan. (The 302SQ was formed as an F-4EJ squadron at Chitose Air Base in 1974. It was then transferred to Naha Air Base in 1986.)The shark face on the nose of these F4EJ Kai aircraft is very realistic, as is typical of aircraft from Okinawa, a region in the southern seas of Japan. An illustration of a white-tailed eagle was also drawn on the air intake vanes of these F4EJ Kais.F-4EJ Kai No. 440 is the final aircraft for the Air Self-Defense Force. Furthermore, it is the final model of the F-4 Phantom series, of which a total of 5,195 were produced worldwide. We Japanese F4 enthusiasts affectionately call this F4EJ-440 "Shi-Shi-Maru".The number 440 can be read as "shi-shi-maru" in Japanese. "Shi-Shi-Maru" means "Lion, King of Beasts" in Japanese.

In April 1999, three F4EJ Kai aircraft with very conspicuous paintwork appeared at the Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru base. These aircraft played the role of enemies for F4EJ Kai training to participate in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Combat Competition (this year's Interception Competition/ACM) to be held at the end of May 1999.This 305th aircraft is one of those three aircraft.

This is a 301SQ F4EJ Kai taken at Japan's Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru base in July 2003.Before the 2003 Air Self-Defense Force Combat Skills Competition (this year's competition was the Interception/ACM), shark teeth were painted on the nose of the F4EJ Kai to raise fighting spirit. Furthermore, the Japanese word ``Hisatsu'' (deliver a deadly blow) was written on the air intake splitter vane.

This is F4EJ Kai No. 384 of 301SQ taken at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru base in May 1994.The 1994 Air Self-Defense Force's combat competition was an interception/ACM. In preparation for participating in this competition, F4EJ Kai, which was scheduled to participate, needed to further improve its low visibility. Therefore, a bright blue-gray overspray was applied to the entire aircraft over the Gull Gray, which was the official paint of the F4EJ Kai at the time. Even the bright red Japanese flag on the aircraft has become pale gray. As a result, the paint became close to the new air superiority camouflage of the F4EJ kai that was adopted around this time. (See 3rd photo)According to the magazine, the words ``SU Eaters'' on the vertical tail were written to boost fighting spirit: ``We are a unit that will devour the Sukhoi fighter jets of a hypothetical enemy.''

In 1984, at the height of the Cold War, 301SQ F4EJ belonged to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's 7th Air Wing Hyakuri Base. Around this time, it became a hot topic in aviation magazines that a 301SQ F4EJ with a silhouette of the MIG-21, a rival of the F4 at the time, appearing in green on the top, bottom, left and right sides of the aircraft. This aircraft was used to play the role of the enemy during interceptions training and to tow dart targets. In February 1985, 301SQ was transferred from Hyakuri Base to Nyutabaru Base. Among them was an F4EJ with the silhouette of this MIG-21 painted on the entire fuselage. I was ecstatic when I saw this aircraft. From then until early 1986, this F4EJ painted in the silhouette of a MIG-21 was in flight. The fifth photo is quoted from ``Ship Model Special Special Edition Air Self-Defense Force F-4 Phantom 2 Photo Collection & Modeling Guide July 2021 Issue [Magazine]''.

This is F4EJ Kai-399 of the 301SQ at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's Nyutabaru base, taken in early October 2004. The entire surface of this aircraft is painted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Air Self-Defense Force. The entire body of the aircraft was painted yellow, and the vertical tail was the traditional black of the 301SQ, making it a very colorful painting. Many military aircraft enthusiasts at the time and fans who came to the Nyutabaru Base Air Festival in December of this year were delighted.

On December 1, 1997, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Nyutabaru Base, the F-4EJ Kai of the 301st Squadron was given a commemorative paint job.F4EJ Kai - No. 400, one "0" in the ones place was deleted and the area around 40 was decorated with a laurel wreath. Also, on the nose of the aircraft was an illustration of the F4 Phantom II's image character, Spook, firing a Kamehameha blast. This was inspired by the Kamehameha waves emitted by Son Goku, the main character of the TV anime Dragon Ball, which was quite popular in Japan at the time.

The entire body of this aircraft was painted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. This painting was also brightly colored and was popular among us aviation fans. The Japanese kanji character "Nin" is written on the air intake vane. This may be because the RF4J was likened to a Japanese "ninja" who secretly sneaks in and reconnaissance.(It was difficult to take pictures on this day because of the top light in midsummer.)
